Following the announcement of a partnership between Ford and the French company Renault to focus on electric vehicle production, it is speculated that the Fiesta could return as an electric vehicle in 2028.
The assumption was shared by the British site Car Magazine, which considered the recent announcement that Ford will launch two new electric cars using Renault’s Ampere platform.
According to Ford, the vehicles, which will be designed by their own team, “feature distinctive driving dynamics, authentic Ford brand DNA, and intuitive experiences” and “mark the first step in a comprehensive new product offensive for Ford in Europe.”
In this scenario, Renault would manufacture the model at its ElectriCity facilities in Douai rather than at a Ford facility. This opens the possibility that the Fiesta, whose production ended a few years ago, could be reborn soon as a 100% electric car.
In addition to the Fiesta, the Focus could also return with a new generation. It is worth noting that Ford had already mentioned plans to release an electric version to replace the combustion engine Focus, but that plan never materialized. In any case, the new electric vehicles are not expected to reach showrooms until 2028, according to Ford.
According to Jim Farley, President and CEO of Ford, the partnership “marks an important step for Ford and supports our strategy to build a highly efficient and future-ready business in Europe.”
“We will combine the industrial scale and EV assets of the Renault Group with Ford’s iconic design and driving dynamics to create vehicles that are fun, capable, and distinctly Ford in spirit,” Farley added.
“This partnership demonstrates the strength of our partnership know-how and competitiveness in Europe. In the long term, combining our strengths with Ford will make us more innovative and responsive in a rapidly changing European automotive market,” stated François Provost, CEO of the Renault Group.
